In the context of the debate on resources and materials, it is necessary to keep once-used resources in the fiber-based value chain for as long as possible. The goal must be to transition from a linear value chain to a circular economy.
To achieve this, appropriate recycling technologies for textiles are needed to allow for material recycling. Existing technologies along the textile value chain will be highlighted, and the technical maturity will be discussed. This includes mechanical, thermo-mechanical, and chemical processes. The focus will be on pre-consumer textile waste.
